-- EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), the world's largest manufacturer, marketer
and distributor of industrial batteries, has recently been awarded
a contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD) worth $7 million
for its Armasafe Plus(R) advanced military tactical vehicle battery.
Armasafe Plus batteries, which incorporate
EnerSys' proprietary thin plate pure lead (TPPL) technology,
will be supplied to the DoD over the next 12 months. This award
represents the second-year option of a five-year contract awarded
to EnerSys in 2004 by the Defense Logistics Agency's (DLA) supply
center in Richmond, VA, the Defense Supply Center Richmond (DSCR).
The batteries have delivered superior performance
in battlefield situations in Iraq for the Stryker brigade and
the Marine Corps, as well as in rigorous testing at military
laboratories and on army bases in the US, such as Fort Hood.
Armasafe Plus batteries have been in use by the UK military for
several years and were recently qualified by the German army,
resulting in a contract. EnerSys currently provides batteries
to defense markets around the world for tactical vehicles on
the ground, aircraft in the air and ships and submarines in the
sea.

Armasafe Plus batteries are manufactured
in EnerSys' highly automated facility in Warrensburg, MO on a
production line that was inaugurated by Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO)
in March 2004.
