EnerSys ABSL™ Space Batteries Support NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Mission Through ESA Collaboration.

READING, Pa., Sep. 15, 2026 — EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), a global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial, infrastructure, and defence applications, is pleased to share that ABSL™ lithium-ion space batteries are part of the Roman observatory's power support system. The telescope was successfully launched on Aug. 30 aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This mission reflects the continued use of ABSL™ battery technology in demanding space applications.

Named after NASA's first chief astronomer, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a next-generation observatory that will observe from a vantage point about 930,000 miles (1.5 million km) away from Earth. The observatory, with a field of view 100 times larger than the Hubble Space Telescope, is designed to help astronomers explore dark matter, dark energy, and exoplanets. It will also complement the Hubble and James Webb space telescopes by scanning large regions of space for targets of interest and enabling more detailed follow-up observations.

More than a thousand technicians and engineers assembled Roman from millions of individual components. The telescope's Solar Array Sun Shield consists of six panels covered in a total of 3,902 solar cells that will convert sunlight into power to provide 4,100 watts to the observatory. This system includes a battery to regulate the voltage to all electrical components and provide back-up power when there is no sun available to the solar array.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has contributed as a Mission of Opportunity by providing, among other things, detectors (EMCCDs) for the Coronagraph Instrument, star trackers and batteries. Through this collaboration, EnerSys ABSL™ lithium-ion battery technology is helping provide the reliable power required to support the mission.

The successful launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope marks another milestone in what has been a remarkable year for EnerSys in supporting NASA missions.
