Donating More than Time: EnerSys® Hosts Blood Drive in Reading, PA and Surpasses Donation Goals
EnerSys® is committed to being an engaged and responsible corporate citizen wherever we do business and beyond – everywhere for everyone. This commitment is reflected in a strong ethic for charitable contributions, endorsement of community activities and encouraging our employees to volunteer their time and skills to serve their communities.
In July 2021, that sense of community and service was on display in a blood drive EnerSys hosted in partnership with Miller-Keystone Blood Center’s Adopt-A-Day program. The drive-in July was the first quarterly onsite blood drive the company has been able to host in over a year due to pandemic restrictions, making the need for such efforts even more integral.
Together, the EnerSys team in Reading reached its goal of collecting a total of 23 units of blood during the two-day drive, which can ultimately save nearly 70 lives.
Speaking on her own experience and the importance of donating blood, EnerSys team member Abigail Wissmann noted:
I’ve been donating blood since I was 18, and to date, I’ve donated 11 gallons! It’s a great way to give back to your community as all blood products are used at local hospitals for cancer patients, premature babies, serious injuries, etc. The process is quick, painless and makes a huge impact on those who need it most.
Blood drives and donations are crucial to support public health – every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Blood donors help patients of all ages and types, from patients with cancer and sickle cell to burn victims and patients with chronic diseases. A donation of one unit of blood can save up to three lives.
EnerSys is proud to be able to begin hosting regular blood drives again, and we are already planning our next drive in December. We will continue to encourage our team members to support the health and well-being of their communities.
