EnerSys Expands Capacity Range of PowerSafe DSG Batteries for Demanding Utility Applications

READING, Pennsylvania, February 6, 2019 -

EnerSys (NYSE: ENS) the global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial applications, has expanded the capacity range for its line of PowerSafe® DSG batteries from 295-745 amp hours (Ah) to 295-1,600 Ah.

The capacity range of 295-1,600 Ah is at the 8-hour rate to 175 volts per cell (vpc) end voltage at 77°F (25°C).

PowerSafe DSG batteries include 12 multi-cell units, with six 8-volt units and six 4-volt units, which reduce the battery’s linear footprint. The multi-cell construction of PowerSafe® DSG batteries also lowers installation costs by requiring fewer units.

Among their other features are plated copper terminals, with one or two post terminals in each cell to accommodate individual cell monitoring. The plated copper terminals are single hole for five- and seven-plate models and dual hole for the remaining models.

“We’ve engineered PowerSafe DSG batteries to meet the demanding power needs in utility, switchgear and control applications,” said George Brendahl, utilities marketing manager at EnerSys. “The smaller footprints of PowerSafe® DSG batteries respond to the shortage of space that increasingly poses problems for utilities. We also made it easier to integrate the batteries with monitoring and test equipment to simplify routine maintenance.”

PowerSafe DSG batteries offer quarter-inch thick positive plates that enable performance for long-duration discharge and complex duty cycle requirements that are inherent in switchgear applications. The thick plates also foster a long service life, which is designed for 20 years in float service at 77°F (25°C) ambient temperature.

The Slide-Lock™ post seal allows for natural plate growth over time, which provide PowerSafe® DSG batteries with maximum reliability and less frequent maintenance. The tongue-and-groove jar-to-cover seal is thoroughly airtight.

All PowerSafe DSG battery systems are rated at 100 percent capacity at initial discharge.
