EnerSys leaders, employees, and distinguished guests gathered to commemorate the completion of a $6.7 million, 34,000-square-foot expansion, an investment that strengthens our capacity to meet rising demand for advanced battery technologies. These include maintenance-free lithium-ion and Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) solutions, as well as flooded lead-acid batteries, a proven and widely used technology for industrial and backup power applications.
Together, these offerings support critical sectors such as transportation, energy, industrial operations, telecommunications, and defense, while helping to reinforce domestic supply chain resilience amid evolving global market conditions.
Attendees included Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, South Carolina State Senator Jeff Zell, and Deron McCormick, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Sumter. Mayor David Merchant, though unable to attend, was represented on behalf of the City by James B. Blassingame, Mayor Pro Tempore-Ward 2. The event also welcomed regional staff from the offices of U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, as well as representatives from the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Sumter Economic Development, and TheLINK Alliance.
Troy Baxter, Vice President of Global Operations for Motive Power at EnerSys, welcomed guests and remarked, “Today’s expansion is not just about bricks and mortar, it’s about investing in opportunity, innovation, and the future of American manufacturing. We’re proud to grow right here in Sumter, where we’ve been part of the community for over 50 years.”
Following remarks, the ceremonial ribbon cutting took place, symbolizing a new chapter of growth for EnerSys and the Sumter community. Guests were given guided tours of the expanded facility, highlighting state-of-the-art production capabilities and showcasing the company’s advanced battery systems.
The Sumter site, located at 1990 Corporate Way, now stands as a key pillar in the EnerSys North American manufacturing network, supporting domestic supply chain resilience and creating job opportunities within the region.
